SRI to present “Solar for Small Homes” at the Green & Blue Conference 2010

Topics covered will include fundamentals of Solar Energy and its application toward helping to develop long-term, sustainable energy savings for small homes. The economics of installation costs vs energy-cost savings and pay-off time will be discussed. Design considerations will be presented along with example case-studies of real and modeled systems. Applications will include disaster-recovery augmentation by installation of solar panels and hot water heating on Katrina cottages and how solar power can be an important asset to emergency disaster relief, providing immediate power when grid connections are down. Also, application toward designs for the Affordable Housing market needs will be addressed including proposed programs. Finally, approaches to reviewing and gauging client acceptance and manufacturer-builder needs will be discussed.
